Full Text of JOE Listing:
CBO’s Macroeconomic Analysis Division seeks a manager to lead its Fiscal Policy Studies Unit, which analyzes the macroeconomic effects of fiscal policy and communicates estimates of those effects to the Congress.
The unit chief supervises a team of analysts—most with advanced degrees in economics—and contributes to the division’s management. Key responsibilities include identifying issues in fiscal policy requiring attention and research, providing leadership and direction in completing that research and publishing the results, overseeing the development of economic models, and responding to requests from the Congress for information on and analysis of specific topics.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics and at least 5 years of experience (or a master’s degree with at least 10 years of experience) in analyzing the economic effects of fiscal and other policies. They must be familiar with state-of-the-art macroeconomic models used for policy analysis, such as dynamic general equilibrium and overlapping-generations models. The position requires outstanding leadership, research, and management skills and the ability to manage projects and to motivate and direct a strong professional staff. Solid communication skills are essential, especially the ability to communicate technical material in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing.
