Full Text of JOE Listing:

The New Zealand Work Research Institute contributes to high-quality research (at both the national and international level) regarding people and work, with respect to labour market dynamics; employment relations; wellbeing and performance; diversity in the workplace; health and work; and the role of technology. Our research groups engage over 70 research experts to provide research that ticks the boxes for both academic rigour, as well as being relevant to policy makers in business, government, and the community in general.

We place emphasis on a collaborative approach and rank engagement with external stakeholders as a high priority. The Institute provides commissioned work for a range of external clients, with recent examples including work for the Ministry for Women, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Human Rights Commission. Further information: www.workresearch.aut.ac.nz

Our current research projects focus on utilising NZ’s population-wide administrative database (the Integrated Data Infrastructure) – which houses microdata about people and households, sourced from government agencies, as well as Stats NZ surveys. See www.stats.govt.nz/integrated-data/integrated-data-infrastructure/

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a two-year fixed-term appointment. The start date for the position is flexible. When a suitable candidate is found, we will work together to determine a mutually agreeable start date.

The key fields of interest include public economics; health education and labour economics; demography; and urban economics.

The candidate must have:
• PhD in Economics (or near completion)
• Strong empirical skills and experience using large linked administrative datasets and/or large-scale surveys
• Experience and interest in labour/health/education/urban related topics
• Highly competent using econometric software, such as Stata, R, etc.

The successful candidate will work in a team-based setting and publish high-quality applied research in labour, health, education economics and related fields. You will be working closely with the Institute Director, Professor Gail Pacheco (academics.aut.ac.nz/gail.pacheco) and a core group of economists. Professor Pacheco was awarded the 2019 University Medal, which is AUT’s top award, in recognition of her exceptional academic achievement. Active participation in workshops and conferences is expected, as is the building of local and international research connections.

AUT is ranked among the fastest growing young universities, with nearly 29,000 students - see www.aut.ac.nz/about/rankings-and-accreditation. AUT is also located in central Auckland - see www.newzealand.com/int/auckland/
