The Academy of Integrated Science (https://www.ais.science.vt.edu) in the College of Science at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Collegiate Faculty member at the Assistant or Associate level who will play a central role in our minor in Behavioral Decision Science. This minor is in collaboration with the departments of Economics, Psychology and the School of Neuroscience. The preferred candidate will have a record of pedagogical achievement and vision, creativity, and leadership skills relevant to instruction. Evidence of interdisciplinary teaching and experience in teaching courses related to Behavioral and Decision science would be also advantageous.

We seek candidates who have a Ph.D. in any relevant field related to Decision Sciences (for example Economics, Neuroscience, Psychology, Decision Science, or Applied Math) and who are passionate about interdisciplinary teaching of undergraduate students in an inclusive and integrated environment. Candidates seeking the rank of Collegiate Associate Professor should have significant teaching experience and, ideally, experience with program development. In addition to teaching experience, desirable candidates should have broad training in the study of human decision-making at the individual, group, and/or organizational level. In particular, preferred candidates will exhibit expertise in judgment and decision-making, formal modeling in decision theory (expected utility and prospect theory) and/or game theory.

Collegiate Faculty primarily contribute to the educational mission of the College of Science. This includes making significant contributions to our interdisciplinary undergraduate instruction, working closely with our undergraduate students, and leading efforts in curriculum enhancements and innovative pedagogy. Though research is not the primary focus on the position, Collegiate Faculty are expected to continue to develop professional capabilities and participate in scholarly activities, including travel to and participation in professional conferences and societies. Research activities can relate to Behavior and Decision Science or Pedagogy. Finally, Collegiate Faculty participate in department, college, and university service and governance, as well as professional service. Additional information on the Collegiate Faculty track at Virginia Tech, which offers renewable 3-, 5-, or 7-year appointments depending on rank, may be found at https://www.provost.vt.edu/faculty_affairs/faculty_handbook/chapter05/chapter05.html.

Applications must be submitted online at https://jobs.vt.edu/. The application should include (1) a cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) statement of teaching experience and philosophy, (4) summary of research experience and future plans, (5) a description of any previous activities in expanding the diversity of the scientific community (such as mentoring members of under-represented groups) and of the applicant’s plans to build a culturally diverse educational environment at Virginia Tech (https://www.inclusive.vt.edu). Contact information for three references should be provided. Review of applications will begin on April 3, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is August 10, 2023 but may be negotiable. Questions regarding the position can be directed to Carlos Perez-Torres (cjpereztorres@vt.edu).
