Swarthmore College is seeking an individual to serve as the Lead Associate of its Social Sciences Quantitative Lab (SSQL). The position is a 3-year appointment, with the possibility of reappointment. The SSQL promotes students’ quantitative skills by providing tutorial services, data analysis support, and research support to students in the social sciences. Responsibilities:

- Designing and coordinating the activities of the SSQL

- Serving as primary liaison to faculty chairs for activities of the lab; overseeing and providing general direction to other SSQL staff members, including student workers

- Planning and hosting in-person workshops on essential dimensions of student independent research, including data cleaning, merging data sets, creating visual representations of data, creating and editing variables, and exporting data analyses into various formats (i.e. Word or LaTex)

- Planning and hosting workshops to train students to work with statistical software commonly used in the social sciences, such as Stata, R, Python, Matlab, and/or SAS

- Providing consultative support to students during regular office hours and by appointment, including assisting students with the identification, manipulation, and analysis of data sets for their empirical research projects

- Collaborating with social science faculty teaching quantitative courses on how best to support their courses and their students

- Offering workshops to prepare students to work effectively as summer research assistants and to succeed in quantitative job interviews

- Creating additional opportunities for students with less experience in quantitative and computational methods to develop skills and confidence


Qualifications:

- MS/MA or PhD (preferred) in Economics, Quantitative Methods, Public Policy, Political Science, Sociology, Statistics, Data Science, or similar;

- Familiarity with econometrics, causal inference methods, and preparing data for quantitative social science research is required. Familiarity with computational and simulation methods is a plus

- Programming expertise in Stata and R and ability to learn new technical skills are required. Expertise in Python and/or Matlab is a plus

- Experience managing teams and projects

- Excellence in inclusive teaching
