Background
Systematic Solutions, Inc. (SSI), is looking for an energy and environmental modeler to join its modeling team. At SSI, we build energy systems simulations to help inform policy decision-makers. We offer our clients a fully integrated energy demand and supply model, ENERGY 2020, providing the ability to assess impacts of a wide range of energy, economic, and emission-reduction policies.
As an energy and environmental modeler, you would be expected to apply and consult on the use of ENERGY 2020 as well as design and implement new modules to incorporate emerging technologies and energy policies. Prior experience with ENERGY 2020 is not required. US-based; Work remotely.
Core Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities may include:
• Build understanding of ENERGY 2020 model methodologies to explain model relationships driving impacts of policy testing.
• Perform model runs translating policy-related questions into the ENERGY 2020 framework.
• Design and develop new sectors and/or enhance existing sectors in the model, such as hydrogen supply or the oil refinery sector.
• Apply programming skills to translate existing model code using Julia programming language.
• Give presentations and write summaries of summaries of analytical approaches, assumptions, code, interpretations of analyses, and conclusions.
Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Required

• Quantitative skills - knowledge of the application of advanced quantitative techniques, such as mathematics, time series modeling, optimization techniques, and macroeconomic modeling.
• Computer programming - experience with computer programming to build quantitative models. Strong command of Julia programming language preferred.
• Computer models - experience developing and using computer simulation models, preferably energy systems models, such as NEMS, ReEDS, or similar.
• Economic - understanding of microeconomic theory of consumer behavior and macroeconomic theory models as they relate to energy market analysis.
• Energy policy – exposure to and understanding of a range of energy policy issues.
