The New York State Division of the Budget (DOB) seeks a Chief Economist to oversee the Economic Forecasting function, including construction of computer simulation models for forecasting and policy analysis; economic impact analysis of legislation and policies; and analysis of trends with potential impacts on the State’s fiscal health.
Responsibilities include:
Identifying economic and revenue trends with potential impacts on the State’s long-term fiscal condition.
Studying the economic and business climate of the State to inform the State’s Financial Plan.
Collaborate in determining immediate and long-range effects of legislation, as well as State and local polices, on the economy, taxpayer behavior, and the State’s fiscal condition.
Directing the construction and maintenance of detailed macroeconomic models for the U.S. and New York economies.
Directing research and policy analysis, including construction of econometric and computer simulation models as required to perform such analysis.
Qualification/Skills:
PhD in economics and six years of economic forecasting experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey complex analysis to various audiences.
Four years of progressively responsible managerial experience.
Ability to address changing priorities and provide expert advice in a dynamic fiscal and political environment.
