Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Institute for Macroeconomic and Policy Analysis (IMPA), situated within the Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University, invites applications for an open-rank, full-time, research faculty appointment. The appointment is a 12-month term position and may commence as early as August 1, 2023; reappointment is contingent on continued external funding.

Established in April 2023, IMPA conducts research on macroeconomic policy with a primary focus on taxation and inequality. It is home to a state-of-the-art macroeconomic policy model for studying the impact of a wide range of policies on aggregate and distributional outcomes. Grounded in contemporary scholarly research, IMPA’s research emphasizes economic realities that are currently ignored or underestimated and that are crucial in the latest policy discussions: income and wealth inequality, the widespread prevalence of market power in labor and goods markets, and the decoupling of asset prices from the productive economy, among others. Learn more about IMPA at https://impamodel.org/ and about the department at https://www.american.edu/cas/economics/ .

In close consultation with the Faculty Directors of IMPA and serving as IMPA’s Managing Director, the research faculty authors policy papers and other products that move the academic research of the Institute into real-world practice, scans policy and funding landscapes to identify opportunities for the Institute to build out and maximize the impact of its model, supervises the contributions of the Institute’s researchers to policy products, manages the Institute’s budget, and performs other duties as assigned.

Applicants should hold a PhD or other terminal degree in Economics, Law, or a related field (e.g. Public Policy). Highly qualified applicants with a master’s degree related to Economics, Law, or a related field will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have one or more years of experience working on economic policy; demonstrated knowledge of contemporary debates in macroeconomics and tax policy; and experience managing short- and long-term projects, with demonstrated ability to produce products on time.

Salary is competitive. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Please submit applications via: http://apply.interfolio.com/126576. Include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, three contact references, and copies of recent written works relevant to economic policy. Please contact Mary Eschelbach Hansen, 202-885-3793 or mhansen@american.edu if you have any questions.
