Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Economics at University College London to work on the research project DEVORHBIOSHIP which has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) (Consolidator Award) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

About the Research Project

DEVORHBIOSHIP is a project which has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) (Consolidator Award) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. It focuses on the interplay of biology, shocks, investments and policies in the developmental origins of health. Dr. Gabriella Conti is the sole PI and responsible for leading and executing this exciting research project, which has available rich resources. Those resources include: ongoing national birth cohorts followed into later life, administrative registry-based linked data, and unique randomised control trials starting in the prenatal period. Many datasets have available biomarkers, including genetic and epigenetic data.
The main aims of this research project are to elucidate the mechanisms through which different early life shocks and policies, starting in the prenatal period, affect the development of health throughout the life course.

About the Position

The researcher will be responsible for executing the research project, while being supervised by Dr Gabriella Conti, and working closely with her and her team. Duties include:
develop and estimate economic models of parental investment in child development, and of the production of health across the lifecycle, incorporating shocks and policies, and the role of biology; support the access, management and analysis of large-scale datasets; contribute to the writing up and dissemination of the results, and to the submission of research papers to peer-reviewed journals.The researcher will contribute to the overall activities of the department as required.

What We Offer

The researcher will be appointed from 1 April 2024 (negotiable) for one year.
The Appointment will be on UCL salary scale Grade 7, £42,099 to £50,585 per annum inclusive of London Allowance, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Full-time working 36.5 hours per week with 27 days annual leave per year. In addition, staff benefit from six College closure days per year. The person appointed will work at the offices of the Department of Economics, Drayton House, 30 Gordon Street, London WC1H 0AX, UK.
