The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized public comprehensive university in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The GBA is rapidly developing into one of the leading technology and innovation hubs of the world. The Department of Economics of the Faculty of Social Sciences is inviting applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Economics. The Department of Economics is a growing academic unit with excellent prospects whose goal is to excel in learning and research in economics. The department currently offers a wide range of courses leading to B.Soc.Sc, M.Soc.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Faculty members actively engage in research with particular focus on econometrics, macroeconomics, microeconomic theory, public economics, and economic growth. The department is highly recognized among universities in the region, evident by some recent ranking exercises. Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in economics or an equivalent discipline, and a demonstrable record of excellence in research and teaching at university level. For this position, we are especially interested in macroeconomics and international economics but welcome applications across all fields of economics. While applicants must be fluent in English, ability to speak Chinese may be considered an asset, though it is not a prerequisite for the appointment.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty by Spring 2025.
Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approximately USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
