Full Text of JOE Listing:

The State Department’s Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) anticipates having one or more openings for well-qualified economists interested in working to utilize the tools of economic analysis to develop and advance U.S. foreign policy. OCE is a small, collaborative office in which you will serve as an International Economist, conducting analysis and developing policy at the leading edge of the world's most complex and critical economic and political challenges.

Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate experience conducting policy-relevant economic analysis and or directly contributing to the policy process. The work requires skills often associated with an advanced degree in economics or similar degree. You will be responsible for performing economic research on a wide range of strategic international economic policy issues. In addition, successful candidates must have the ability to present their views clearly and concisely in written and oral briefings, often under tight time constraints.

Duties: The Economist may undertake analysis of economic, strategic, and security concerns related to international economics, trade, supply chains, economic impacts of industrial policy, as well as trade and investment restrictions; international macroeconomics and finance, including global capital flows; productivity drivers; transmission of global shocks through goods and financial markets; and development. The Economist prepares analytical papers and recommendations on major economic policy issues and presents them for review and decision. The Economist develops and maintains professional contacts in other USG agencies, academic, research, professional, non-governmental, and governmental organizations concerned with economic issues.

Conditions of Employment:

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
