Under the supervision of the Centre’s Managing Director and the Chief Economist, and under the thought leadership of the President and/or other senior management officials and ERIA’s Governing Board, the Director for Digital Innovation and Sustainable Economy is expected to play a leading role in managing and directing the activities of E-DISC. This includes developing the research agenda and projects, and providing strategic advice on all aspects of ERIA’s digital and sustainable development knowledge priorities in the region.

Responsibilities:
1. Lead a technical team in conducting policy-oriented research and analysis related to the digital economy (e.g. digital trade, data governance, cross-border data flows, cybersecurity), digital technologies and innovation (e.g. artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies), start-ups, entrepreneurship, and the sustainable and circular economy.

2. Develop, manage, and implement activities, projects, and organisational strategies to facilitate digital transformation and sustainable development. This includes producing flagship publications, leading outreach initiatives, building internal team capacity, and collaborating with external partners to shape ERIA’s contribution to the region’s digital and sustainable economy.

3. Formulate policy recommendations and provide strategic policy advice on issues related to the digital economy and sustainability at regional, national, and local levels.

4. Ensure E-DISC has access to leading technical expertise in the digital economy by working closely with ERIA’s research and policy departments and representing ERIA at international conferences and meetings as required.

5. Engage with key stakeholders—governments, industries, academia, and international and non-governmental organisations—on digital transformation and sustainable economy issues through knowledge management, policy guidance, technical assistance, and capacity-building initiatives.

6. Perform other duties as assigned by the President and/or other senior management officials.

Qualifications:
1. Advanced degree in economics, public policy, engineering, technology, computer science, or other relevant fields.

2. Strong knowledge of the digital economy, technology, and sustainable development. Proven ability to conceptualise digital solutions and experience in applying technologies to improve economic and policy outcomes.

3. Demonstrated experience in conducting research and technical projects on digital and sustainable economic policy, particularly within think tanks, research institutes, government bodies, or industry.

4. Excellent research and writing skills, with a proven record of producing high-quality publications and managing data sources. Experience in ASEAN and East Asian countries is strongly preferred.

5. Extensive leadership and technical expertise in developing functional and organisational strategies, including relevant management experience, in response to developments in global and regional economies.

6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work harmoniously as part of a multicultural team.

Working Conditions and Terms of Employment
1. Salary and Benefits
An internationally competitive salary, including accommodation and education allowances. The salary is denominated in US dollars.

2. Term
A one- or two-year fixed-term appointment, renewable up to a maximum of five years in total, subject to reappointment by the President based on performance and the continuation of budget.
