Full Text of JOE Listing:
The research department of Norges Bank has an opening for a permanent position as a (junior or senior) research economist. Candidates should hold or complete a PhD by mid-2026 with research specializations in macroeconomics, monetary economics, or banking/financial intermediation. Experience as a researcher is an advantage but not necessary.
The department consists of 12 full-time research economists and research assistants who support the economists. The department's working language is English. Researchers works on issues of relevance for monetary policy, financial stability, and financial markets. They spend half their time conducting high-quality research that addresses issues of importance to the central bank aimed at ultimately being published in international peer-reviewed academic journals. In the other half, they provide research-based analyses. Researchers can work with rich administrative data on households, firms, and banks.
First-round interviews will mostly take place between December 7-24 (online). Applications are considered on an ongoing basis, however, and we therefore encourage candidates to apply early. Fly-outs are scheduled for January-February. The expected starting date is August 2026 but earlier is possible.
For questions contact Eleonora.Granziera@norges-bank.no (recruitment chair) or knut-are.aastveit@Norges-Bank.no (deputy research director).
