The School of Economics at the University of Maine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Economics. We are looking for a vibrant and productive colleague with excellent skills in applied economics. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to our three-part mission of teaching, research, and service to address problems of importance to Maine and beyond. The position will have an initial appointment split of 50 percent teaching and 50 percent research. The research component, supported by the Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station, will focus on topics related to food/agriculture, natural resources/energy, and/or vibrant businesses and places.

Responsibilities include delivering high-quality undergraduate and graduate instruction to support our academic programs; developing a productive, nationally recognized applied economics research program; applying for and securing external funding; advising, mentoring and providing research experiences for students at all levels; and collaborating with colleagues at UMaine and with external partners to address issues of importance to decision-makers in Maine and beyond.

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Applied Economics, Economics, or a closely related field; advanced training in food/agriculture, natural resources/energy, or regional economics; demonstrated ability or potential to teach a variety of Economics courses at undergraduate and graduate levels; strong record or promise of scholarship, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and extramural research funding; demonstrated ability or promise to advise and mentor students; strong written and oral communication skills; and record or promise of high professional and institutional service and leadership capacity, and commitment to collegiality.

Preferred qualifications: Advanced training in applied data analysis; and demonstrated record or promise of working collaboratively with researchers from other disciplines and non-academic/industry partners.
