The Becker Friedman Institute for Economics (BFI) at the University of Chicago advances rigorous, data-driven economic research and translates insights into real-world impact. BFI brings together leading scholars, policy-makers, and global partners to deepen understanding of critical economic issues and expand the reach of Chicago economics around the world.
The Senior Director of Global Communications will lead and execute BFI’s communications strategy, elevating the Institute’s research and visibility across academic, policy, business, and public audiences. The Senior Director will oversee editorial and digital content, media relations, global outreach, and major events; guide strategic messaging; and collaborate closely with faculty and senior leadership to translate complex research into accessible, impactful communications.
Ideal candidates will have significant experience in communications, public affairs, or media strategy in a research, policy, academic, or mission-driven environment. A bachelor’s degree and seven or more years of relevant experience are required; an advanced degree and leadership experience directing communications teams are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong writing and editorial skills; the ability to translate technical research for non-specialists; experience working with faculty or subject-matter experts; strategic judgment; and the ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
