Job Description
The Department of Resource Economics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position, expected to start on September 1, 2022. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration. Applicants should have a research focus in the area of Health Economics. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in Microeconomics, Econometrics, Managerial Economics, and/or Health Economics. This position is intended to add to the growing Health Economics research area within the Department. The new hire is expected to develop a nationally recognized research agenda and to become a core member of the new field of Health Economics within the Department. A wide range of interdisciplinary research opportunities are available across the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus, including through the Computational Social Sciences Initiative and the Institute for Social Science Research.

Requirements
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Agricultural/Resource/Applied Economics, Economics, Econometrics or a related field as of September 1, 2022. Applicants with an Applied Microeconomics and Applied Econometrics research focus, specifically in the area of Health Economics will be given preference. Research complementarities with the department’s other focus areas will also be considered.

The Department of Resource Economics has approximately 20 faculty, 400 undergraduate majors, and 25 graduate students. We place special emphasis on high quality research, faculty-student interaction, and cooperation among faculty. We share a fundamental commitment to teach and attract a diverse student body.

The University is part of the 5-College Consortium in the beautiful Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. The five local colleges anchor a series of townships surrounded by rural farms and contribute to excellent social, cultural, and recreational amenities. Additionally, we are 90 miles from Boston, 160 miles from New York City, and 45 miles from the nearest international airport (in Hartford, CT).
