An Invitation for Government and Public Service Economists at the Annual Meeting

For the 2027 AEA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, the AEA is pleased to invite economists working in the public sector to its President’s Reception on January 4, 2027, at 6:00 p.m. Economists in government and public service put economic research and analysis to work on behalf of the public each day—informing policy, strengthening institutions, improving public programs, and helping decision-makers navigate some of society’s most consequential challenges.

Public-sector economists attending the annual meeting are warmly invited to join AEA President Katharine Abraham, President-elect Janice Eberly, and other AEA leaders at this event, which is sure to be fun and memorable for all.

AEA Distinguished Service Award

Do you know an economist whose dedication and service have strengthened the economics profession? Help ensure their contributions are recognized by nominating them for the AEA Distinguished Service Award. This award, which is adjudicated by the AEA Committee on Professional Climate, honors individuals whose volunteer efforts have made a significant and lasting impact on the field of economics at a national level. While the award is presented by the AEA, nominees’ service does not need to be limited to AEA-supported activities—contributions across the broader economic community are welcome.

Many economists give generously of their time through leadership, mentorship, program development, and professional service. ASSA Travel Grants

The Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) is accepting applications for travel grants to attend the 2027 ASSA Annual Meeting. Junior economics faculty from groups traditionally underrepresented in economics may receive up to $1,000 to help cover travel and meeting expenses. The deadline to apply is October 9. Departmental Seed Grants for Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion

CSMGEP invites U.S.-based economics departments to apply for a Departmental Seed Grant for Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion. Departments may receive up to $5,000 to help establish a new bridge or training program aimed at increasing diversity and inclusion in economics. The deadline to apply is October 9. Small Group Breakfast at the 2027 ASSA Annual Meeting

Junior scholars from groups traditionally underrepresented in economics are invited to apply for CSMGEP’s Small Group Breakfast at the 2027 ASSA Annual Meeting. Limited to 20 participants, the breakfast provides an opportunity to engage with distinguished senior economists, AEA journal editors, Executive Committee members, and other leaders in the profession to discuss career development and opportunities in economics. The breakfast will take place Tuesday, January 5, and will feature AEA President Katharine Abraham. The deadline to apply is October 23. Mid-Career Peer-to-Peer Mentoring –- Enroll Now!

The Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession’s Mid-Career Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Mentoring Program aims to help mid-career economists find community, support, and mentoring. Annual CTREE Conference Submission Portal

The Sixteenth Annual AEA Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE) will be held June 2-4, 2027, at the Westin DC Downtown in Washington, DC. The conference is hosted by the AEA Committee on Economic Education. Arik Levinson (Georgetown University), Jessica Goldberg (University of Maryland), and a representative of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve will give plenary talks. The online submission system is now open, and submissions will be accepted through December 1. Submissions may include individual papers, complete sessions of three or four papers, posters, workshops, or panels. Submissions of complete sessions are especially encouraged.
