Wheat or Strawberries?

Farmers in developing countries can earn more by growing strawberries. So why do farmers grow wheat instead? In the August issue of the American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, researchers Kala Krishna and Lena Sheveleva explain how a simple Catch-22 makes farmers more likely to produce the less valuable crop.
